The Ghost Festival

When: 15th August 2019

The Ghost Festival, or the Hungry Ghost Festival, finds its origin in both Buddhist and Taoist origins. As per traditional Chinese belief, spirits of the dead can cross over to Earth on this day. The Chinese make an effort to appease these transient ghosts, while ‘feeding’ their own ancestors. Streets are filled with people paying homage to the dead by burning incense and joss paper, and by building papier-mache effigies of the Ghost King.
Dragon Boat Festival

Dragon Boat Festival

When: 7th June, 2019

The most exciting activity in this festival is participating in dragon boat races. You can either watch the races on-site or live on TV. You can also become a member of a boat team! Competitions are held everywhere in Hong Kong, including Discovery Bay, Stanley, Repulse Bay, Lamma Island, and Sai Kung, to name a few.
The 3-day racing event is usually held in Victoria Harbour. It is accompanied by the Beerfest with live music and games. If you are not quite interested in the dragon boat, you can go swimming or have some traditional sticky rice dumplings, wrapped in bamboo leaves.
